AEW Dynamite Preview (Jan 12, 2022): Free Wardlow

All Elite Wrestling comes on our way from the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. Last week, Hangman Adam Page retained the world title with a clean pin on The American Dragon, Bryan Danielson. MJF’s plans to build his own win/loss record were thwarted by the interference of CM Punk. Jericho and Eddie Kingston once again reluctantly find themselves on the same team against the current 2.0. Adam Cole, The Young Bucks, and ReDRagon assured us that everything was just like that Fine And everyone was happy. Wardlow defeated Antonio Zamprano with the help of Sean Spears he certainly didn’t ask for. Jade Cargill became the first-ever TBS Champion. Malakai Black defeated Brian Pillman Jr. with ease. Finally, Jurassic Express defeated the Lucha Bros in the main event to become the new AEW Tag Team Champion!

This week’s headline:

MJF wants to build his win/loss record in AEW by mowing through dealers (hey, it worked out with Brett Baker). CM Punk wants to punch MJF in the face and ruin his life. Wardlow, well, what exactly does Wardlow want? That is the real question here.

Wardlow has been the MJF’s go-to guy when he doesn’t want to face the consequences of his actions. He threw it in front of Cody, and now he’s throwing it in front of CM Punk. In the past, Wardlow happily cashed the check and complied, but lately, he seems to be a little reluctant to do so. I mean, if you had Shaun Spears as a designated accountant, you would probably question your job as well.

CM Punk seems to think he can convince Wardlow to leave MJF, but it’s clear that MJF feels secure enough in his relationship with War Dog to send him against his current opponent.

Which of them is right? Will we witness a head-to-head battle between the best in the world and The War Dog tonight? Or will Wardlow finally see the light and leave the MJF and his little nemesis to fight their own battles?

Title scene:

the World Championship Safely in the hands of Hangman Adam Page after defeating The American Dragon Bryan Danielson in less than 60 minutes. Now that’s some real cowboy shit! Paige boosted his championship by giving Danielson his first loss in AEW with a bullet point and a clean pin. He’s no luck champ after all! But what’s next for a millennial cowboy? Maybe tonight, we find out.

The undefeated Jade Cargill is the first of its kind TBS Champion. Kargil is undefeated, and while she has fearsome tendencies (I honestly see her more than a tweener), she wasn’t afraid to fight. Hell, why would you be? Did I mention she wasn’t defeated? Hopefully they do some open challenge with this minor belt to build the belt, give Cargill a chance to prove the naysayers wrong, and showcase talent in the women’s division. I mean, she had to cut some kind of deal with Mercedes Martinez to secure her help, right? Let’s fight on the spot!

After a devastating spot for Rey Fenix, Jurassic Express won a race Tag Team Championships last week. (His arm didn’t break! Thank God!) It’s been a long time since this tournament was played, especially for fan favorite Jungle Boy. But this is their first reign in the tournament which means the entire tag team division is out for fresh blood. So who will be the first team to advance?

Sami Guevara won provisionally TNT Championship last week day Belts battle. Tonight he put the title on the line against Daniel Garcia. Garcia has been on TV lately with a fair amount of help 2.0 harass and terrorize Eddie Kingston, but tonight is his chance to show off his dynamite public. It’s unlikely that Guevara would give up that temporary title until he could take on the real champion, Cody Rhodes, but showcasing matches like this is the perfect use of such a title. My money is on Jericho and Kingston somehow.

Women’s World Champion Brett Baker proved her critics wrong when she finally defeated Rio in a singles fight. There were a few tense moments between her and fellow stablemate Jimmy Hayter during the match, but they seemed to work at the end and even embraced a cute group hug. But are they really on the same page, or will Hayter be Baker’s next contender?

Other things to watch:

Hikaru Shida and Serena Depp are going to try to kill each other again, and it’s going to be awesome.

– Ricky Starks defeated Matt Sydal in Belts battle, but not without a little distraction from Powerhouse Hobbs. Tonight Dante Martin, friend of Matt Sydal and enemy of Team Tazz, is looking to take the big man himself. Will Team Taz finally get revenge, or will Dante Martin continue to dribble and succeed?

Join AEW on TBS at 8PM ET for the last time to see how it all works.
