Chris Colbert vs. Roger Gutiérrez

Unbeaten rising star Chris “Primetime” Colbert and WBA Super Featherweight Champion Roger “The Kid” Gutiérrez expressed confidence that they will emerge victorious in their next showdown during a virtual press conference Thursday, as they previewed the showdown taking place on Saturday, February 26 on LIVE SHOWTIME The Premier Boxing Champions Live from The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® kicks off at 10PM ET/7PM PST and will see an unbeaten appearance by Gary Antoine Russell, 2016 US Olympian, facing former World Champion Victor Postol in the 10-round lightweight co-main event, Meanwhile, the IBF World Junior Pantweight Champion Jeroen Ancagas will defend his title against Argentina’s undefeated Fernando Martinez in the televised opening match for the Triple Stuffed Header.

Live event tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com.

Colbert made a name for himself with an exciting combination of speed and power that helped him raise the 130lb rating, defeating former champions and dangerous contenders along the way. Colbert will be looking to win his first world championship against Venezuelan Gutierrez, who took the title and made his first defense in two surprising victories over René Alvarado in 2021.

Here’s what the fighters said on Thursday:

Chris Colbert

This will be ‘Primetime’ on SHOWTIME. This is what I have been waiting for. There is no better time than now. This is my time and I will dominate this fight.

“Everyone they put in front of me and say they have strength, they don’t hit hard at all. I ended up capturing them and hitting them. I don’t expect anything different in this fight. I’m ready to win by any means necessary. I don’t care to look pretty, I care about winning and dominating.”

“He better makes sure he gets him a Mack truck, because I’m up against him in this fight. If he can’t get me on my bike, he’s going to be in trouble.

“At the end of the day, two warriors have to step into the ring and fight. He is the current champion and I will be the champion. I only expect him to have a gunfight.”

“February 26, you better make sure you’re caught. I don’t have any losses and I don’t intend to get any. You’ll hear ‘and new’ when this fight is over. After the fight, I’ll take him out for a beer.”

“To be honest, I’ve never seen Gutierrez fight. They shouted to him for winning the belt, but I don’t care who fights like him. I have one job that night, and that’s a win by any means necessary.”

“When I won this fight, I’m that guy. I’ve told you forever that I’m that guy. I was born that guy. I’m going to keep proving that and whatever comes next. I hope Gary Russell Jr. can recover and I can fight that fight and retire him.” .

“Gutiérrez has more knockouts than fights, but that doesn’t matter to me. I like fighting bigger hitters because I know they come to fight. I know he won’t run. I want this to be an exciting fight. I want to show the fans that I can do everything.” .

“I’ve seen my skills and I’ve seen that I can stand in the middle of the ring and hit anyone. You’ve seen me do everything. I’ve never been fired before, so I know he won’t. If he wants to go from toe to toe, I’ll show everyone I’m really fast. Very sharp and very strong.

“That was definitely another starting point for me. I knew this opportunity would come. I knew I was going to be the world champion. I made it. This is just another day, another dollar for me.”

“I carry my own style of boxing. I am looking to build my own legacy in this sport. I am focused on this fight. I am ready to go to Manu Manu with the champion.

“When I win in a dominant fashion, don’t be surprised if I kick him out. That’s what I’m going into this fight to do.”

Roger Gutierrez

“I was so excited when I was told that this fight was going to happen. Regardless of it being mandatory, I knew this fight would be a great opportunity for me to show that I am one of the best players in the world.

“This is an opportunity I am not about to miss. I have been training in Los Angeles since December and I will show the world what I can do on February 26th.

“Anything you saw of me against Alvarado, you can throw it out the window. This will be a completely different fight. I will have to adapt and I will be better than ever. This will be something you have never seen before.”

“It doesn’t matter to me whether I was the favourite or the underdog. Alvarado was the frontrunner against me too. I don’t care who believes in me, what matters is that I am a warrior and believe in myself.”

“Even though people say I’m a knockout artist, that’s not what I’m looking for. I work to win every round. I don’t care if we go to the last bell. Knockouts come naturally.

“You will see a Venezuelan hero again. I don’t care what people say about this fight. I will return this belt to Venezuela after February 26 to celebrate with my people.”

His best weapon is his mouth. I can’t wait to see him in the ring on February 26th. I understand he’s doing what he has to do, but I’m not worried about his speaking at all.

“Chris is a great fighter and he’s a versatile boxer. That’s what excites me. I love taking on big challenges. You’ll see me rise to that challenge on fight night.”

“Winning the world title was a whirlwind of emotions. Not only did I reach the top, but I was able to keep a promise I made to my mother, who passed away a month before the fight. It was amazing to be able to reach that top.”

“If he wants to stand there and strike, we’ll be ready. If he wants to use the ring, we’re ready to chase after him. We’ll have a plan no matter what. I’ll be ready to leave the ring victorious.”

“I’m focused on this fight, but if all goes well, the name on my mind for my next opponent is Leo Santa Cruz.”
